Describe the time of year and the environment
This was late July or early Aug of 1986. The weather was cold with scattered rain. A camp fire wasndefinitely needed. The camp ground had three levels, we were on the bottom level next to the creeknbottom. At the time of the initial call we were the only ones in the camp ground.
Have there been any other reports ro talk in your area
Not that we know of.
Additional comments
We were sitting around the fire having dinner when the first call happened. It came from the uppernlevels to the East. It was dusk but still light enough to see. I went to the edge of the upper level and sawnnothing. I returned to camp. We were tent camping but decided to stay. About an hour later the secondncall sounded. This time it was to the South of us and came from the creek bottom. We left our tent andnstayed in our car for the night. Maybe an hr. later another call sounded this time to the NW of ournlocation but still in the creek bottom. This time there was a return call farther up the drainage. Wenestimated the return call to be at least a mile away. About an hr. later another closer call was soundednand a return call followed. The calls were moving toward each other. There may have been another set ofncalls then all was quiet for the rest of the night. In the morning I went to other camps and asked if theynhad heard anything. We were the only ones on the lower level and the trailer campers had come innduring the night, they claimed to have heard nothing. I wish now I had explored the creek bottom thennext day for sign but at the time we were a little unnerved by the nights events. We wish we hadnmimicked the sounds into a tape recorder while it was fresh in our minds. The calls were nothing we hadnheard before in the woods and had great depth and volume. This was not the sound of Elk, Bear ornCougar.
