First sighting about 30 years ago on mountaintop in Southern VT during mid November( deer season).nSecond sighting on mountain in northern VT while bear hunting with friend in mid September ofnaround 1999. First sighting was from about 100 yards away. Creature was dark brown/nearly black, withnsome frosted hairs. face mostly hairless. very large bodied. was carrying some sort of bone or whiteishnstick and tracking a wounded doe whitetail. It stooped twice to smell the ground. I watched through an9X scoped rifle for about 30 seconds. Later I walked to where it had been, observed huge imprssionsnnear creek bed. I was dumbfounded and not sure just WHAT I had seen, at that point. Second sightingnwas from 30 yards away in heavy cover. Thought at first it was moose, then got that terrible smell, nunlike anything I've ever smelled. Saw creature as it stood partly behind large white pine tree. Never sawnface. I did see two large legs and body and one shoulder, through 5X rifle scope at very close range.nAnimal made several

friend along for second sighting. He saw the tracks and witnessed stench left behind. He too, heard it asnit left. He was 100 yards below me, in the woods, when I sighted it. It had walked past him first. He'dnheard it go by and also assumed it was a moose, which are common in this state now.
